Popular West Ham players you never warmed to

Di Canio.
Tremendous player, but too much passion in an Italian way.

Di Canio.
A few, well, a lot, let his outrageous skill blind them to the fact that he asked to be substituted more than once because he felt the ref was letting the opposition kick lumps out of him.
He was right about the ref, but you wouldn't have seen, say, Brooking's quieter, but more genuine passion allow him to ask to be subbed under such circumstances.

If Di Canio had learnt one thing it was that if his anger with a ref was about to boil over then perhaps it was best if he left the pitch.
He's not the first player to be popular partly due to his unstable nature. Him Brooking are like chalk and cheese but both great to watch on their day.

Brooking was a hero and legend in every sense of the word, but that hairstyle used to irk me and still does!
Sorry Sir Trev.................

Steve Potts - found it hard to get over the fact he was a USELESS full back when he was reinvented as a centre half
Stuart Slater - always thought of him as an ineffective headless (head down) chicken with too few brilliant moments

May upset one or two but never understood the ''love in '' for Tevez. Dodgy transfer deal ,looked like a thug and bugerred off after one season.

One pretty obvious David Kelly never thought much of him terrible Striker.
One not so obvious Stewart Robson he was actually pretty decent but I always thought he was a grafter rather than someone of great skill or Intelligence, although he was very much loved by fans when he came to the club, and did well too.
Sometimes it has to do with someone's character I remember seeing Liam Brady in his first game, that was my favourite experience ever at Upton park he just oozed class and quality and was practically two steps ahead of Paul Ince and 5 steps of any other player he just had it.

Tomas Repka.
He’d get a red card by doing some neck-high two-footed challenge and get clapped off the pitch! Yeah, cheers Tomas!

Can’t remember David Kelly being popular!
My vote goes to John Moncur. When he arrived he was a decent footballer and then decided to turn himself into a clown. Fans loved him though.

My favourite repka red was Boxing Day 2002 at home to Fulham. He got a deserved yellow late in in the game and started arguing about it with the ref. The ref, in fairness, was very patient and listens a bit before clearly telling him to stop. He carried in. The ref must have said about 3 tines ‘if you carry in I will send you off’ and he just kept going. In the end he got his second yellow, with the ref looking utterly bemused and defeated as he gave it to him
Utter plank

John Moncur. I always felt that he would have been better served to drop the hard tackling, fist clenching, playing up to the crowding, getting booking side, and concentrate on the playmaking. He seemed to be a liability in the latter stages, valuing tomfoolery above on field contribution, and always a red card threat.
Mind you, saying that I can often be heard droning on about how the characters have disappeared from the game, so if he's a liability, I'm a fucking hypocrite.

Trevor Morley - Still to listen in disbelief when I hear people talk about him being a good player. He was fucking useless and the little dive forward to his knees when he used to win free kicks wound me up every time.
Marc Vivien-Foe - Not to speak ill of the dead - but again, was useless. People would say he could tackle - yes, but whats the point in winning the ball if you're instantly going to give it back to the other team?
Stan Lazaridis - Skippy - absolute fucking turd player.
On a below post - I have to say that for me, John Moncur is up there with Bishop and Carrick for me - and maybe Michael Hughes as some of best ball playing midfield players we had from 90's onwards. I'd love to have a player like them in the side right now.

Moncur was another one who had a ridiculous dismissal. There was a Cup game on tv where he came on as a sub and got two yellow cards in about 45 seconds and went off
Think he was a classic case of a player who could have been so much better if he’d focussed on his game more - he had bags of ability

Stewart Robson for me. Good player granted but it always seemed like he wanted to do everything from pick the ball up deep, pass it, run with it, tackle, take the throw in's, so much so it probably interfered with the rhythm of the team and the main creators in the team probably didn't see as much of the ball as they should have done.
